Decking in Western Sydney: The Complete Suburb-by-Suburb Guide

—

Western Sydney is one of our busiest areas — and it’s easy to see why. The region is packed with family homes that have the space and the outdoor lifestyle to make a deck one of the best investments you can make.

But Western Sydney has its own unique challenges for decking. Here’s what you need to know — suburb by suburb.

—

## Why Western Sydney Decks Are Different

Before we get into suburbs, here’s the honest reality: **Western Sydney gets hot.** Penrith regularly hits 40°C+ in summer. This affects your material choice more than anywhere else in Sydney.

– **Dark composite decking** can become uncomfortably hot in full western sun
– **Timber** can dry out and crack faster without adequate oiling
– **Shade structures** (pergolas, shade sails) paired with your deck are strongly recommended

Our advice to Western Sydney customers: go lighter in colour, consider a pergola at the same time, and choose materials with good UV ratings.

## Suburb Guide

### Parramatta & Surrounding Areas
Parramatta is a mix of older homes on good-sized blocks and newer townhouse developments. For the older homes, we often see large backyard opportunities that haven’t been maximised yet.

Popular choices here: **Merbau hardwood** for a traditional look, or **Trex composite** for low maintenance. Many Parramatta homeowners pair their deck with patio covers — a great combination.

### Penrith & the Blue Mountains Foothills
The extreme summer heat in Penrith makes composite decking the smart choice. We’d specifically recommend **lighter coloured composite** (grey or sandstone tones) to minimise heat absorption.

Penrith homes also tend to have more space, meaning decks here are often large — 50m²+ is common. This is where you really get value for money on a per-metre basis.

### Liverpool & Campbelltown
A mix of established family homes and newer estates. We do a lot of work here — both new deck builds and replacements of older pine decks that have reached the end of their life.

If you’re replacing an old timber deck, this is the perfect time to upgrade to composite — we currently offer **free demolition** with every new deck installation.

### Castle Hill, Kellyville & the Hills District
The Hills District has some of Sydney’s most beautiful homes — and the residents have the taste and budget to match. We see a lot of premium composite work here: Millboard, TimberTech and Eva-Last in natural-toned finishes.

The Hills District is also partially bushfire prone — if you’re in a BAL zone, material selection is critical and we’ll advise accordingly.

### Blacktown & Seven Hills
Fast-growing areas with a mix of housing. We do a lot of value-focused builds here — solid Merbau decks or mid-range composite that transforms backyards without breaking the bank.

### Baulkham Hills & Norwest
Similar to the Hills District — established, quality homes. Homeowners here often want the full package: deck, pergola, balustrades and lighting. We specialise in the complete outdoor living transformation.

## What Does Decking Cost in Western Sydney?

Western Sydney pricing is generally slightly more affordable than Eastern Suburbs or Northern Beaches — primarily because site access tends to be easier and blocks are flatter.

Rough estimates for Western Sydney:

| Type | Cost (Installed, ~30m²) |
|—|—|
| Treated Pine | $6,000 – $9,000 |
| Merbau Hardwood | $9,000 – $16,000 |
| Composite (mid-range) | $13,000 – $20,000 |
| Composite (premium) | $18,000 – $28,000 |

These are guides only — your specific quote depends on site conditions, height, complexity and extras.
