When a client in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs came to us wanting more than just a deck, we delivered something truly special — a fully functional, beautifully finished outdoor kitchen that transforms their backyard into a year-round entertaining destination.
The Brief: A Complete Outdoor Entertaining Zone
The client wanted their backyard to work as hard as their indoor kitchen — with a proper prep space, cold drinks on tap, and a serious BBQ setup. No compromise on materials, no cutting corners on finish quality. Just a space they’d be proud to show off every weekend.
The result? A fully custom L-shaped outdoor kitchen featuring a Matador built-in BBQ, undermount sink with matte black tapware, a glass-door bar fridge, and a stunning composite feature wall — all sitting on a fresh composite deck.
What We Built
- Composite feature walls — A rich timber-look composite board cladding wraps three sides of the kitchen, creating a private, enclosed feel while providing a warm, natural aesthetic that weathers beautifully outdoors
- Matador built-in BBQ — A serious, professional-grade BBQ with four burners and digital controls, built flush into the tiled benchtop
- Tiled L-shaped benchtop — Large-format stone-look tiles across the full benchtop surface, waterproof and easy to clean
- Undermount sink & matte black tapware — A deep undermount sink paired with a matte black gooseneck tap — functional and sharp-looking
- Glass-door bar fridge — Matador underbench bar fridge keeps drinks cold and close at hand
- Built-in storage cabinets — Composite-clad cabinet doors with heavy-duty black hinges for gas bottle and accessory storage
- Composite decking — A light-toned composite deck ties the whole entertaining area together
- Feature wall lighting — Directional spotlights illuminate the kitchen beautifully at night
The Design Details That Make It Work
What separates a good outdoor kitchen from a great one is the details. Every material here was chosen specifically for outdoor performance — the composite cladding won’t warp, rot or fade; the tiles are slip-rated and frost-resistant; the tapware and hinges are marine-grade stainless behind the matte black finish.
The L-shaped layout is deliberate — it creates a natural flow from prep to cook to serve, and the raised benchtop on the sink side gives you workspace without bending. The enclosed three-wall design also provides shelter from Sydney’s afternoon westerly winds, making it usable year-round.
Thinking About an Outdoor Kitchen?
Outdoor kitchens are one of the best investments you can make in your Sydney home. They extend your living space, elevate your entertaining, and — in the current property market — add real resale value. A well-built outdoor kitchen starts from around $15,000–$20,000 depending on size, materials, and appliances.
At 5 Star Decking, we design and build outdoor kitchens from the ground up — structure, cladding, benchtops, plumbing rough-in, and appliance integration. Everything coordinated by one team, one contact, one fixed price.
