If you live in Coogee and you’re thinking about adding a deck to your home, you’re making a smart investment. Coogee is one of Sydney’s most desirable coastal suburbs, and a well-built deck can add significant value to your property while giving you the perfect outdoor entertaining space just minutes from the beach.
Average Decking Costs in Coogee (2026)
Decking prices in Coogee typically range from $300 to $900 per square metre installed, depending on the material, size, and complexity of the build.
| Deck Type | Cost per m² | Best For |
| Treated Pine | $300–$450 | Budget-conscious builds |
| Hardwood Timber | $450–$650 | Premium natural look |
| Composite Decking | $500–$900 | Low maintenance, coastal conditions |
Why Coogee Homes Need the Right Decking
Coogee’s coastal location means your deck is exposed to salt air, UV radiation, and humidity year-round. We strongly recommend composite decking or hardwood species like Spotted Gum or Blackbutt for homes in this area — they hold up far better than treated pine in coastal conditions.
What Affects the Price of Your Deck in Coogee?
- Size of the deck — larger decks cost more but the per-m² rate often drops
- Height above ground — elevated decks require more structural work
- Material choice — composite costs more upfront but saves money long-term
- Access — Coogee properties can have narrow side access, affecting labour costs
- Council requirements — Randwick Council may require a DA for larger decks
Do You Need Council Approval in Coogee?
Coogee falls under Randwick City Council. In most cases, decks under 1 metre in height and under 20m² can be built as exempt development — no DA needed. However, if your property is heritage listed or in a sensitive zone, you may need approval. We handle all council requirements as part of our service.
